I’m the chapter’s token “Yankee”. I spent my youth in Ohio
where I began riding two-wheeled motor-driven vehicles at the
age of 12, my first “motorcycle” being a home-built version of
the popular Cushman scooter that my dad built for his three
sons. Dad bought a Honda Nighthawk while I was in high school
and he and I would arm-wrestle for who would ride the bike – him
to work or me to school. He usually won. I rode borrowed bikes
after that, but stayed involved enough to get my first
“Motorcycle Endorsement” from the golden state of California
just after the state initiated that requirement. (That’s a clue
to how old I am.)
My riding experience was, naturally, somewhat spotty until I
decided that I didn’t want to borrow others’ bikes and purchased
a Sportster from Bumpus/Whitten in 2001. My progression of
“rides” went through an ’02 Deuce and then an ’04 Ultra. I
currently own an ’08 Ultra and an ’08 Sportster. Since my
initial Harley purchase I have ridden in all 48 of the continental
states (25 with my bride) and have logged over 125,000 miles in
the Harley Owners Group Mileage program.
Ghost River Chapter of Harley Owners Group
Collierville, Tennessee, USA - Number 1866
Safety Officer - Allan Bloor

The Memphis HOG chapter was recommended to me by the dealership and it was a rewarding experience to connect with others who
shared the passion for riding. I became a Road Captain for the chapter and continued as one until ’07 when I shared the Head Road
Captain duties for the “satellite” dealership in Collierville.
When the Collierville shop made the decision to sponsor a HOG chapter, I became a charter member. With the dealership less than
a mile from my front door, it became a wonderful opportunity to become more involved. I have continued as a Road Captain since the
establishment of the Ghost River chapter and have had the privilege and honor to be appointed as Assistant Director for ‘07/’08,
elected as chapter Director for ‘09, and appointed as the chapter Safety Officer for the current year.
Ghost River HOG is just a few years old, but it has the lucky combination of circumstances that make it a superb collection of
riders, “family”, and friends. I am looking forward to 2011 with Ghost River.
